I have
always thought of myself as a creative person. I have BA in Theater for
goodness sake and you would think that would give me an edge when it comes to
decorating our new home, however, this project has been very difficult.
Apparently, years of living in small New York City apartments has made
decorating our modest home seem like an overwhelming task. I can’t seem
to make up my mind on any one piece of furniture let alone imagine it in a room
with other pieces of furniture must coexist. My husband is refusing to
continue to sit on folding chairs and furniture that is falling apart, so it's
time to go shopping. Here goes nothing!
Below is one
of our first rooms… we have started to work on… the family room!
Before
Now:
Things we need to work on
next in this room:
T.V. stand- We got a great
deal on a closed T.V. stand during the holiday weekend. I can't wait till it
arrives because Kennedy is growing and moving fast. As you can see, by looking
at the corners of our coffee table we have started baby proofing. But our whole TV stand has to go. I can just
see Kennedy pulling herself up on those glass shelves.
We still have to purchase:
-Rug
-Window treatments
-Art work for the walls
If you have any ideas on
what styles will look good in this room and where I can get good deals for
items above please let me know?
add some color to the room. anything goes with gray! paint an accent wall, pillows, drapes etc. it is starting out nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I know I need color but I'm just happy I got the furniture out the way!
DeleteI am now on a color mission!!! :)
DeleteFirst thing I immediately noticed is the lack of color! Choose a few accent throw pillows in different colors to see what works best with the natural lighting of that space. For accents always check Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Big Lots too! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh and have you checked The Dump in North Houston for furniture?? They are only open weekends but worth it!
I've been meaning to go to the dump for side tables. I just hate that they have no website bc I really don't feel like wasting my time.
DeleteLove that new couch!! Looking good! I agree with color. Maybe some fun accent pillows in case you have color commitment issues (I know I do)! I would add a huge mirror above the couch. It will also open up the space a whole lot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the details. I obviously have color commitment issues!!! LOL! I think I will start slow with pillows! lol!
ReplyDeleteI love your couch! The furniture you have is great. I think I might be tempted to get brightly colored curtains (I'm feeling red orange for some reason). I think it'd look great if the curtains hung all the way up by the ceiling. The windows have such great height that I think long curtains would help bring the windows out even more.
ReplyDeleteIf you go with brightly colored curtains I think I'd also go with a thick shaggy carpet (I want to say white but I know it's super impractical with a baby!)
If you keep the rug neutral you can play with colored accents & change them whenever you're in the mood!
Good Tips!
ReplyDeleteThose benches are amazing! Love them... :)
